Texas, Day Three

Driving around two Counties

Minutes away from Daddy's home was this marvelous herd of longhorns.  We pulled right up and walked right out to their fence-line. They could have been anywhere on this huge spread, but they were seemingly waiting right here for us to arrive. Only one yearling was curious enough to come out to the barb wire fence. We both go to pet this precious creature.

Observing our every move though, was the herd's bull.  He made faces at us, and stood very menacingly nearby,
in case we tried anything foolish. We didn't.  There were yearlings as well as relatively new-born calves.

[below] Look at the points on those horns.  Ooh, he's got an itch!  But, in case you thought he wasn't paying attention ... he's back!  The phrase you see on all the bumper stickers ... "Don't mess with Texas!"  Or one of their longhorns either.

Had to stop by the local detention center. [above]

Then, off to the dam, where we saw the local bass fishermen picking up dinner. There were dozens of pelicans, and other water and scavenger birds waiting for leftovers.

And, on the other side of the dam, the Dam Liquor Store.
Houses of dining ... worship ... and justice.
We made a tour around the lake, where we saw the town's water tower, a tranquil palm tree, a dock at one of the boat ramps, the "big bridge" and Joyce checking out what might be biting. We also saw a touring fishing team that was there for a weekend tournament. And then there are lots of local eateries that cater to a fish-loving populace.

Along all the highways, the wild grasses are mixed with wild flowers.  If you're stuck in traffic (and we were a couple of times! They're always repairing the roadways) it's quite nice to see this outside the window.

In Livingston, we had to take a picture of the old Courthouse,
and the beautiful gazebo there at night-time.

Back at Houston's airport, there was a cow in a space suit! Houston, the eagle has landed.
