A Trip to the Downtown Aquarium

Since Joyce wants to study Marine Biology, a trip to the Aquarium.

Out front there was a cool fountain [right] of two sailfishes. Cool bas relief [below left and center] decorated the outside of the building.

Once inside, there was an abundance of fish life to photograph.

Enjoy!

A turtle family
Various tropical fish, eels, rays, catfish and snakes.

There was also a tarantula, several frogs and seahorses. There were interactive items too, including this crocodile skull that Joyce is showing off.

Last but not least, there were some predator fish, [left and center] piranha and a barracuda!

Then we came to a touching pool where they had hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, rays and sharks!  Joyce touched everything.

This is where Ana went crazy with the video feature on her camera.  Here are short clips of some of the fish in the small fish tank, a turtle swimming around, a humuhumunukunukuapua'a, and Joyce petting the rays and sharks in the ray tank.

Ana also took a bunch of pictures of Joyce, in the diving suit display, with the white tiger statue, on the rides in the amusement park area, with Sharkie, and with the octopus and dolphin topiary.

Ana also had to take pictures of the various flora. Hibiscus is her favorite flower, can you tell?

Over in the amusement park, there were games of skill and chance, as well as the ferris wheel, a cool carousel, and a drop ride that Joyce made Ana ride!

From the top of the ferris wheel, we could see the Hard Rock guitar, so we took a picture. We also saw it from the train ride. Speaking of train rides ...

... even though it was hokey at the end (see the fake shark at the end of the ride [below right]) we rode the train thru a shark tunnel, where we saw black- and white-tip reef sharks, nurse sharks and a saw-fish.  Very cooool!

Then it was off to the white tiger display. There were two "teenagers" there when we first got there, 15 and 16 month olds, a male and a female. Took a little video there too [one and two].

When it was time for the older tigers to go in, they let a cub out to play with a souvenir bag, his favorite toy, and 8 pounds of ground meat. Oh, and the empty cardboard box that was in the souvenir bag.  No matter what you buy them, "kids" always seem to be happier with the box!

We worked up an appetite, and had to have a late afternoon snack at the Aquarium restaurant.  While dining, we had an enormous tank as a backdrop, and here were some of its inhabitants.
