Our Birthday Activities

  F l e e t   W e e k  usually occurs
around our birthday, and this
year the planes were going thru
their practice runs on our day.
We took rapid transit up to the
City, and spent a lovely
afternoon walking around,
having lunch at our favorite
restaurant there, and
watched the fly-overs!
Like a picture postcard.       An interesting "sculpture"
Luckily the backside of the art
had the name and description.

Our friend Scotty joined us on
our adventure. Here he is being
silly in front of the sculpture.
Joyce joined him ... aaawww, so
cute!
Turns out, it's a war memorial.

We need to get to the 39th pier
.... and we're only at 1 right now.
Janet gets to be a marshall at this
golf tournament going on this
same weekend, right here in the
city by the bay.
      Ana's favorite book when she
was young, the movie is coming
out soon, and there is an exhibit
on the author at the local museum.

  The famous landmark ... the
Transamerica Building
      Acrobat planes doing their
stunts .... did they know they
were making a 9 in honor of our
birthday on the 9th??
Of course we HAVE to go to
this museum .... this is a new
addition to the former military
installation.

Joyce and Scotty posing in front
of a very famous diner in town.
We want to go to this "circus"
some day too.
We've ridden one of these land
and sea vehicles in San Diego ...
we need to take this ride at some
point too.  Joyce says she just
wants to take a month off, move
up here, and do everything!!

This is a really fun activity too ...
Ana hasn't gone here in over 20
years, so they really need to go
(again) and see it.
And a restaurant to boot! Is this
town a tourist destination or
what!?
      It's Columbus Day weekend, so
this display in one of the cruise
ship lobbies was no surprise.

Not sure what they were going
for, but it's an interesting piece
of art.
Ah, finally at our destination. We
will eat here and watch the fly-
overs.
Right next door is the aquarium.
And this giant shark jaw was
available for a photo op.

  Beautiful weather, light winds ...
such a great day for our birthday.
Ana likes the color scheme for
the menu. And a part of the
proceeds from their purchases
go toward this worthy cause.
A mother and child humpback in
this Wyland mural watch over the
birthday mother & daughter. How
appropos!

We were watching for the Angels
between the patio umbrellas.
      This was probably the famous
maintenance C5A that goes
everywhere with the Angels.
They fly fast, but we finally got
one in the viewfinder.

  Switching to video, we finally
captured them in formation. This
is one frame of that video.
Pro shots ... this is what they
look like when you have a really
good camera!
We got home by late afternoon
so we could get dressed for our
birthday dinner-&-a-movie (about
couples going on a retreat - funny!)
with more of our friends.
