OCTOBER
Our dear, wonderful friends from the theatre, Aaron and Charles, were kind enough to host Joyce's birthday party again, so for her 18th, we had another cast party/birthday party after one of Ana's Assassins performances. Aaron was Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, so a number of our friends from that show came to the party afterward too. And friends from Music Man were in attendance as well. And the best surprise of all, the Lion from Joyce's very first play, Wizard of Oz, was able to make it too.  He was surprised at how the little girl he knew from Wizard and Joseph had grown up!
In all, the house had about 50 guests through-out the evening, and the party finally died down at 5:30 in the morning, when everyone who was left took a nap before it was time to cook breakfast at 9:30. The gals left at 1:00, with just enough time to go home, freshen up, race to the theater to see Aaron as Gaston, then Ana left after the first act to get to her own show that evening. Whew! Such a social whirl!!

Ana had requested another specialty cake - click the image above for the full view.

On the Monday before their birthday, Joyce had the day off from school, and Ana took the day off from work, and they went to Monterey to play at the Aquarium again; see the pictures. Ana and Joyce separately had lunch and dinner invitations from many friends and family to celebrate the momentous occasions.

Ana caught a performance of Godspell as performed by her compatriots in The Glue Factory, as Joyce was teching in the next home-theatre production, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine. Ana was later enlisted during tech week to help out too, since they were running short on tech crew to move the immense sets around. So much for having a break between shows! But Joyce gets to be seen on the stage once again, or at least her "famous feet" do, as she performs as Sonya Hennie on the "ankle stage." Here are some pictures from the video.

On top of all that, Ana was in rehearsals for the Winter Concert season for the HP Choir, and two folks asked her to sing with them in each of their Specials - one was a duet, and the other a quartet. Sweet!

After the first Saturday performance of Hollywood/Ukraine, the gals joined their fellow cast mates and other shows' casts at a Halloween party.  They dresssed as pirate wenches, in case that wasn't clear from the pictures. Joyce injured her knee as she knelt on the edge of a sofa to give a hug goodbye, and we spent two hours in the emergency ward in the wee early morning hours of Sunday, getting it readjusted and immobilized. And after all that, we still managed to go to the 49er game later that day (they lost), followed by an Assassins cast party, and then a Hollywood cast party. Yet another social whirl of a day.

  NOVEMBER
We attended another Bar Mitzvah, for Yosi, whom the gals have known for 12 of his 13 years. Very tearful for Ana.

Two weeks after her knee injury, Joyce got a clean bill of health and a release from the hateful knee immobilizer. Ana got to stop being a chauffer too.

For one of the Hollywood cast parties, the gals made their famous pasta dish, 'Nana S'ghetti,' and spent the night (stayed up all night!) again, as usual - with several friends all over the floor, the sofas and the guest room - at Chez Charles and Aaron. That same weekend, the show closed, they struck the set, and had a final cast party with all their old friends and the new ones they'd made. What a wonderful experience.

Joyce spent Thanksgiving with her dad, and Ana spent it with her mom, where she made Game Hen a l'Orange. Mmmm mmm!

  DECEMBER
Rehearsals ended and the HP Choir performed, four concerts at three different HP sites. Even though Ana started out with laryngitis, she was able to make it thru all the performances singing her duet and quartet parts to the audience's delight.

Several members of the Choir (including Ana) had the opportunity to join two other local choirs and members of the San Jose Symphony in a Christmas Cantata at a local church. With about a week of rehearsals, it was crunch time, but well worth the effort ... what a blessing the music was!

Joyce volunteered to work backstage on Rocky Horror so she could be around her "brother" Aaron, who reprises his role as Rocky.
