Wednesday:
On the drive in from the airport, we saw Trippler
Joyce wanted to shop at the famous market place After shopping, we walked toward Waikiki Beach and saw a Duke's restaurant, Diamondhead, and the Royal Hawaiian. (Ana likes the color scheme.) A song for Joyce: "Oli Oli" or Joyous, Joyous.
A beautiful balcony beckoned Joyce to stand and pose.. A performance artist on the street. And a peaceful carp pond inside this beautiful hotel. [For a more detailed running commentary, check out the travelog.]

Fine
dining!

A statue of Liliokalani and her peacock, with Joyce, and a mural of peacocks near a fun restaurant.
Joyce in fun poses at a "celebrity circle" and "where girls rule!"
  Thursday:
We noticed this painting of a paniolo on a dolphin on the bar at our hotel Iolani Palace was our first stop for our tour of Honolulu.
A building Ana recognized from the "Hawaii 5 0" TV show. Then, the State Capitol Building.
Liliuokalani's statue, and the Iolani Palace The Palace Stockade A watering trough for the palace horses
The Palace's back entrance The Royal Hawaiian Band plays at this bandstand. The front of the palace.
The terminal bldg was the site of the Police Dept in "Hawaii 5 0" Joyce wanted to see the Hawaii State Library This is the oldest church.
We had lunch at the famous Duke's, where we had indoor/ outdoor seating. It was Air Force Week while we were there, and we got the see the Thunderbirds perform several times at Iolani, from Waikiki Beach and from the cruise ship.
We  needed  to go to the Hard Rock Cafe, and while we were there, we saw a live feed of the rock concert going on, and by a strange coincidence, we were seated in the Beatles section to eat.
  Friday:
The Arizona, Mighty Mo, the Aviation Museum of the Pacific and a drive around the Punchbowl.
The anchor from the Arizona which was thrown 200 feet from the vessel after the explosion.

The "official" portrait taken by the staff at the ship. With "costume!"
  The Pacific Aviation Museum:
At Luke Field, where Amelia Earhardt had flown. They had restored WWII planes and a docent who was really excited to share war stories.
Back on the road again, we saw Trippler again, then went to the Punchbowl ...

... and saw Dawg the
Bounty Hunter's office.

An Eternal Flame; the Art Museum; the Women's Y
We had dinner at a 50's diner ... too much rock'n roll'n fun The waitresses even danced
to Greased Light'ning.

  Saturday:
We boarded the cruise ship. We definitely like the Mardi Gras bar
A view from the deck when we embarked.. The party on the aft deck, and Joyce and I taking a photo together.
  Sunday:
This is the view from the ship. We left the ship at 8:30 and caught a bus for an island tour of several sights.
On the way around Hilo Bay
First we went to Rainbow Falls ... no sun, so no rainbows. We saw hundreds of beautiful orchids and other flowers at the Akatsuka Ochid Gardens
Mauna Loa Nut Farm  - free nuts, and we got lunch too. We saw a volcano from the rim and floor, and walked thru a Lava Tube At the top ...
  ... inside ....

 ... and
the bottom.
There were even some Nene's (Hawaiian geese, the state bird) joining us on the lava flow. Joyce on the grand balcony in the Capitol Atrium
  Monday:
We steamed into port and were greeted by the tug with it's fire cannons spouting.  Maui Ocean Center
We set out on our next excursion.
In the Iao Valley we saw a number of historic displays, beautiful scenery ... and finally, the Iao Needle
Then off to the Maui Tropical Plantation
We saw even more old buildings as we drove from place to place
Finally, we ended up at the Maui Ocean Center where Joyce took 200 pictures! Here are only a few. But what a cool place!
  Tuesday:
A rainbow greeted us on our second Maui morning.
We took the bus out to Lahaina, where we saw the 2nd oldest banyan. We saw other scenery as well.
Had to get to the Lahaina Hard Rock More scenery, then dinner in the ship's fancy restaurant.
  Wednesday:
To get to Kona, we needed to tender in on the lifeboats, as the port is too shallow for the ship.

We took a 3-hour cruise around the bay where we saw spinner dolphins, and learned a lot about the history of Kona. This home (right) belonged to John Wayne.
A tide pool along the water's edge. We spent a few minutes cooling off in this little man-made cove. Joyce sat on Forrest's bench at Bubba Gump's.
  Thursday:
On Kauai, exhaustion set in, so we slept in, then went shopping at the mini-mall where the cruise staff and locals shop.
Our cabin steward kept us guessing what animal would show
up next in our towel menagerie.  By the end of the cruise we
had a rabbit, a turtle, a frog, a snake, a monkey, an elephant
and a mouse (which Joyce brought home.)

First, they took our pictures when we boarded the ship. Then at one of the dinners, they took our pictures again. We also wanted to have our 'birthday portrait' done.
  Friday:
Spent our last Kauai day at the beach and last minute shopping.
Joyce just wanted to dip her toes in the water ...
yeah, right!  Here she waits .... waits .... wait
for it, and then she's pounded by a great wave.

We went by the Na Pali coast twice, so each side of the ship could see it. And as the sun set in the west, we headed back
to Oahu, and the last leg home. Our final morning
on the ship, we woke to this beautiful sunrise. We
came into port and saw the sun rise over Diamondhead.                     [back to home.]
