DECEMBER

December was a very busy month!  The girls had wrapped Joseph and were trying to settle back into a normal schedule.  Ana had signed up to participate in the HP Choir so she still had holiday concert activities to perform.

Even though this was her first time with the choir, she was honored to be selected for a "special" where she sang with a smaller group. Their special was the hilarious  The 12 Days After Christmas where you learn all the misfortunes that befall the partridge in the pear tree and all the rest of the "lovely parting gifts!"

The girls got to celebrate a very happy occasion, Janet & Joel's Wedding! They have known each other nearly two years, had found they had the same heart for God, and liked many of the same activities. It was only a matter of time before they figured out they were meant to spend the rest of their lives living happily ever after!

Mazel Tov & Congratulations
to the happy couple!

The girls squeezed in a 49er football game and a couple of  Sharks hockey games into their schedule, and they seem to be the lucky charms because all the games they attended scored a "W" for the home team!

Ana's office celebrated the season with the usual round of  Holiday Parties, playing white elephant gift exchanges, and generally enjoying each other's company as the year wound down. As usual, the site cafeteria had a brunch on the last business day before the holidays, and Joyce skipped school (also her last day) so she could be with her mom and see her old friends from the office.  One of the groups Ana supports even had a movie-offsite where they had their holiday lunch, then went to see Master and Commander for the rest of the afternoon.

Ana has always wanted to take Joyce to see the Nutcracker ballet performed live by San Jose's resident ballet troupe. This was finally the year. It turns out one of the young people who regularly attends their congregation performed with the ballet this year, so it was "perfect timing" as they say!

Joyce celebrated Chanukah with Mom and all her "congregation family" at a wonderful party at their temple. They shared the annual Holiday Brunch at mom's work, as usual, and drove by the hospital where Joyce was born to see the tree [pictures]. She then spent the Christmas Holiday with her Dad.

New Years Eve/New Years Day
On her return from Sacramento, Joyce and her mom prepared for their usual participation in their congregation's annual New Years Eve Talent Show. The kids put on a shortened version of The Wizard of Oz, in which Joyce got to play The Cowardly Lion, a role brilliantly played by one of her favorite people in Joseph as well. The kids did a fantastic job, and all their parents yelled and cheered. Ana reprised The 12 Days After Christmas, this time performing all the parts solo, since she didn't have her HP gang with her. She performed a duet with her buddy "Debsky" singing "Bosom Buddies" from the musical Mame. All agreed that they were very funny! [pictures]
After that celebration ended, they had just enough time to join some of their Joseph friends at a party at their home before the ball dropped in Times Square at midnight. This was Joyce's first "all-nighter" New Years, as they stayed over, slept on the living room sofabed, and watched movies and had a wonderful time until almost 4:00 when everyone was just too tired to stay awake any more. At 10:00 they woke to a New Years Brunch, and went home at 1:00!  Happy New Year!! After getting some much needed rest, on January 2nd the girls visited the Winchester Mystery House for the first time together (Ana had seen it last in her teens). It is of course a very interesting place, and a local landmark, so you really need to see it at least once in your life.  After the tour, they stayed with the same theme, and went to see the Eddie Murphy movie Haunted Mansion based on the Disneyland ride. It was funny, and perfect for the theme of the day, but it can never compete with their favorite Pirates movie!
